Sometimes my brain actually hurts

Freddie, my son just sent me this video, https://www.facebook.com/reel/557851356508093?fs=e&s=7MtrtK

Here are some lesser known symptoms of ADHD (I haven’t had my written report yet) that the psychiatrist flagged up.

Remember Neurodiversity is a difference in wiring of the brain. When you can’t do stuff, you literally can’t do it at that point in time. With great effort you can teach yourself strategies to help yourself do whatever it is you want to do, but the effort this involves is much greater for a neuro-diverse brain than a neurotypical one. We are left feeling exhausted.

Yes – I have started to make statements based on my own experiences that have had no explanation up until now.

1. Some, seemingly simple tasks feel like my brain is actually hurting inside my head. It feels like a headache, but a headache deep inside, where closing my eyes is the best option. If possible I will go to sleep. I feel nauseous, it’s a truly horrid feeling.

I experience this when:

1. I am bored reading and I am not engaged in it, either in a book, a newspaper or  on a computer screen.

2. I fall asleep in listening to talking, on the teli, live talks, church sermons, prayers, people repeating instructions, people talking at you. First I zone out, then I feel sick and I just want to lie down and close my eyes. I often sway, it’s that bad.

This can be interpreted as laziness, over tiredness (did you get enough sleep last night), or that you just can’t be bothered. It isn’t either of those. Sometimes I want to complete a task, I have to complete a task, but I literally CAN’T!

Interestingly the shorter time I have to do something the more chance there is of getting it done, but not to the standard I had intended!

The science behind this has been explained by Psychiatrist – in a film – where she  explains that where the wiring of a neurotypical brain means that concentration has a steady pulse to it – pay attention, pay attention, pay attention – for as long as needed the neurodiverse brain has an interrupted rhythm. – pay attention, pay attention, oh look at that, whoops, pay attention, pay attention, what’s for tea, pay attention, pay attention, I can hear a noise, what is it and so on.
